Relationships

An important component of system modeling is capturing relationships between pieces of equipment. For instance, a user may wish to model which air handlers feed particular zones, or which pumps supply which chillers.

Which relationships a piece of equipment may have are determined by the ontology and the equipment type definition. Relationships can be defined on the type in the Entity Editor, and assigned on individual equipment instances from the Equipment Entity page.

Editing Relationships

Open the Equipment Entity page for an equipment type. Each relationship defined on the type appears as a column in the equipment grid. To add or change a relationship on a specific instance:

  1. Click the relationship cell for that instance (or click Add Relationship if no value is set).
  2. In the dialog, search for the target equipment or schedule:
  3. Recent -- previously selected equipment.
  4. All -- browse all equipment instances.
  5. Custom -- enter a custom equipment identifier.
  6. Schedules -- link to a local BACnet schedule object.
  7. Select the target and the relationship is saved.

To remove a relationship, click the clear button on the cell.

Defining Relationships on a Type

When editing an equipment type (via the Edit Entity button on the Equipment Entity page, or during type creation), the Relations panel allows you to add or remove relationship definitions. Each relation has a name and description. Sub-components of the equipment type contribute their own relationships as well.
